Ladies who are inducted into St. Peter’s Rosary-Altar Society share in the spiritual benefits of the Society under the patronage of St. Dominic and the leadership of the Dominican Order. The society offers its members social and spiritual fellowship, and offers St. Peter’s parish the kinds of service that Altar societies have always offered: taking care of the sanctuary and its accoutrements as well as decorating the church at Christmas and Easter. The members meet one Sunday a month before the 10 am Mass for a communal rosary and then meet after Mass for their regular meeting. Ladies who are interested in Society membership may speak with a member at one of their monthly meetings or phone the parish office to be put in touch with its membership committee.
Both the K of C and the Columbiettes, Catholic fraternal and service organizations for men and women respectively, have representatives in the parish. Founded in 1881 by a parish priest in New Haven Connecticut, the K of C has grown to be the largest Catholic fraternal and service organization in the world. The local council, Kingston Council 275 on Broadway in Kingston (about a twenty-minute drive away), is a community leader in right-to-life activities and draws members from parishes area-wide. Men and women who are practicing Catholics who would like information about either of these organizations may inquire at the parish office. We will put them in touch with representatives.
The Fr. Con Colbert Woulfe Division 1 Ulster County AOH invites men 16 years old or older who are practicing Catholics of Irish birth or descent and US citizenship to join them. They are a Catholic fraternal and service organization who trace their presence in New York to their foundation here in 1836. They sponsor several local events, two of the biggest being the Kingston St. Patrick's Parade in March of each year and the annual Irish Festival known as "The Hooley on the Hudson" on Labor Day Weekend. They also sponsor their own pipe and drum band as well as support their own "Feed the Hungry" project. There is a Ladies AOH as well, plus a Junior AOH for boys 8 to 16 years old. Representatives of the AOH live in the parish and we'd be happy to put anyone in touch with them who'd like more information.
On most First Fridays of the month, we offer all-day adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament exposed in a monstrance. Adoration begins with exposition after a 10 am Mass and runs until Benediction right before the 5:30 pm Mass. We have volunteers who sign up to spend half-hour or hour-long periods in adoration throughout the day. Spending time with Jesus in adoration is one of the deepest kinds of prayer available to Catholics. If interested, phone the parish office.
